What does Greater China cover?

Greater China includes: China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. In SEO terms, this region of the world is characterized by its own languages (Traditional and Simplified Chinese) but most importantly by a market landscape that differs dramatically from the rest of the world. Instead of a Google supremacy in most countries around the world, Baidu reigns among search engines in China. For that reason all the traditional SEO methods do no apply as Baidu algorithms are different.

Baidu is however not the only search engine in China, and we shouldn’t count without powerful contenders such as Qihoo 360 and Sogou which has only recently been joined by Tencent. China is not only one of the fastest growing market, it is also a potential alternative to the standards Google has spread around the world. We should expect whoever gets the lionshare of the Chinese market to be the standard bearer for the rest of Asian markets. Baidu has already set its foot in Thailand and we should expect this continue.
